A new multiplayer experience for Euro Truck Simulator 2 is on the horizon. DriverMP is being developed with one key ambition: to bring players together in a realistic, enjoyable and community-driven environment, while introducing some fresh ideas to the multiplayer scene.
We recognise that established platforms have helped shape the community we know today. In particular, TruckersMP deserves significant credit for the work it has put into Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator multiplayer over the years. It has helped build a community, introduced countless players to convoy driving and kept multiplayer trucking alive for a huge number of people. DriverMP takes inspiration from some of those established foundations, while looking to build something with its own identity.
Familiar foundations, a different approach
Of course, DriverMP will feature many of the things players have come to expect from a multiplayer platform. We understand that the basics matter, and we're not looking to reinvent everything simply for the sake of it.
However, we also want to explore different approaches.
One of our main priorities is realism. We want to create a network where driving feels meaningful, where players can enjoy a more immersive experience, and where the community has a genuine say in how the platform develops.
We're also looking at supporting vetted modifications on the network. Rather than restricting the experience to the standard game environment, we want to explore how carefully reviewed mods could be introduced without compromising stability, compatibility or the experience of other players.
Already supporting the latest ETS2 update
DriverMP is currently supporting the latest Euro Truck Simulator 2 update, with several key multiplayer synchronisation features already in place.
These include:
Synchronised weather – bringing a more consistent environment across players.
Synchronised time – helping create a shared world rather than separate experiences.
AI traffic support – bringing additional life and realism to the roads.
These are important foundations for the experience we're building, and we're continuing to develop and refine the platform as we move closer to beta testing.
Infrastructure, security and development philosophy
Behind the scenes, we've put considerable thought into how DriverMP is built.
Our infrastructure has been designed efficiently, allowing us to make changes to the setup quickly without having to overhaul the entire network. This gives us the flexibility to adapt, test new ideas and respond to issues as they arise.
However, we also recognise that being able to ship updates quickly doesn't necessarily mean every update should be released immediately.
In software development, there's often pressure to push new features and fixes out as quickly as possible. While we appreciate the importance of keeping development moving, rushing products or features into production to address problems quickly can sometimes create bigger ones. Untested changes, overlooked vulnerabilities, stability issues and insufficient security considerations can all have consequences.
We would rather take the additional time to get something right than rush an update that could negatively affect the network or its users.
Security is an important consideration throughout DriverMP's development. We're mindful of the responsibilities that come with operating a multiplayer network, and we're working to ensure that security, reliability and the protection of our users are considered alongside new features and improvements.
Our infrastructure gives us the flexibility to move quickly when necessary, but we're balancing that flexibility with proper testing, review and consideration before changes reach the wider community.
Ultimately, speed matters, but so does getting things right.
How will moderation work?
One area we're still actively exploring is how moderation should operate across the network.
We want to strike the right balance between maintaining a realistic driving environment and ensuring players can enjoy themselves without unnecessary restrictions.
One idea we're considering is a points-based driving licence system, where driving offences could result in points being added to a player's record, potentially leading to further consequences if they accumulate too many.
This is still under consideration, and nothing has been finalised. We want to hear what the community thinks before making decisions that could fundamentally shape how DriverMP operates.
Get involved: We want your ideas
DriverMP isn't just about building another multiplayer platform. We want to build something alongside the community.
As we approach beta, we're encouraging players to get involved, share their suggestions and help us identify what works and what could be improved.
There are already ways to keep up with development:
TikTok: Check out our TikTok for development teasers, sneak peeks and updates from behind the scenes.
Discord: Join our Discord server to get involved in discussions, register your interest in testing and share your ideas directly with the team.
We want our testing community to help shape the direction of DriverMP. Whether it's suggestions for new features, improvements to existing systems or completely different ideas, we're listening.
The road to beta
There's still work to do, and we're not going to pretend everything will be perfect from day one. Building a multiplayer network takes time, testing and a willingness to listen.
But we're excited about what we're creating.
DriverMP beta is coming soon.
Keep an eye on our social channels, join the Discord and be part of what comes next. The road ahead is only just beginning.
